A couple of weeks ago, I did a theme on mermaids for the girls on my speech therapy caseload. The boys did pirates so I figured why not? This craft was so much fun and really cute when it was finished! You could easily use the craft for your articulation or language clients.
Here’s What You Need for The Craft
Simple enough, right? I substituted the paint daubers for pieces of construction paper. I tore construction paper of blue, purple and pink into small pieces. That’s what we glued on the tail instead of using paint. The paint daubers are easier to use though. Shimmery paint daubers look amazing!
Assembling the Craft in Speech Therapy
Cut the paper plate so that it looks like a “V”. As the child performs a speech or language task, she can dot a row across the tail. To get even more reps, she can only put 4 dots at a time. Repeat until the entire tail is completely covered in color! Then cut out two flippers to glue on the bottom. There you have it! An adorable mermaid tail perfect for a summer craft! For my artic clients, I wrote their target words on the flippers so they could practice at home.
